Hedges

BAMBUSA TEXTILIS GRACILIS

Also known as Slender Weavers Bamboo or Graceful Bamboo is handsome enough to stand alone, it also makes an excellent hedge or privacy screen. A tight clumper with very erect and tidy growth.  Perfect for landscaping in a smaller garden. also make an attractive potted plant for a porch or patio.

BAMBUSA OLDHAMII

Bambusa oldhamii, known as giant timber bamboo or Oldham’s bamboo, is a large species of bamboo. It is the most common and widely grown bamboo in the United States and has been introduced into cultivation around the world.

BAMBUSA BONIOPSIS

Used as a hedge or small screen. Also used as a beautiful standalone feature plant. Grows well in a contained environment such as a retained garden bed or pot. The thin canes can be used as stakes.

BAMBUSA GUANGXIENSIS (CHINESE DWARF)

This is another excellent bamboo for a hedge or privacy screen. It is a fast grower, putting up many new shoots each growing season. It can be topped to keep it at the height you desire, which results in a dense bushy bamboo hedge.

MALAY DWARF VARIEGATED BAMBOO (TAIWAN VARIEGATED)

Great for either a hedge or ornamental. Doesn’t mind shade and can grow well in a pot.  It has a mass of small dark green leaves with white strips, giving it a silvery appearance. It is fast growing and can withstand most soil types.

BAMBUSA VULGARIS ‘WAMIN’ (BUDDHA BELLY BAMBOO)

An exceptional specimen plant with dramatic swollen internodes.  A very unique ornamental plant that does not get as tall as many other bamboos.

BAMBUSA CHUNGII (TROPICAL BLUE BAMBOO)

A rare bamboo from Southern China, the culms develop a powder-like waxy “bloom” which give them an elegant, soft blue color.  This is a medium tight clumper and requires a little more room in the garden than some of the tight clumpers.  This is one of our favorites!

BAMBUSA EMEIENSIS FLAVIDORIVENS

This is one of our favorites.  A very rare bamboo from Southern China, it features yellow-green culms with darker green and yellow striations (stripes).  It grows very erect.  The mature clump does not produce lower branches, making it ideal for the smaller garden or along a walkway.

BAMBUSA LAKO (TIMOR BLACK BAMBOO)

One of the most attractive bamboos in the world, this black bamboo from East Timor makes an excellent ornamental plant. Occasional vertical stripes of green and yellow add to the magnificence of this extraordinary plant.

DENDROCALAMUS ASPER ‘BETUNG HITAM’ (BLACK ASPER BAMBOO)

Black Asper Bamboo is a spectacular and rare bamboo with large black canes, which can grow over 60 feet tall in south Florida. Because this bamboo grows so tall, with canes up to 6 inches in diameter, be sure to plant this where it has plenty of room to grow.

GIGANTOCHLOA ATROVIOLACEA (TROPICAL BLACK BAMBOO)

 A dense tropical clumping bamboo native to Java, Indonesia. Culms emerge green and mature to a shiny black (almost purplish tint). Grows erect and arches at the top. Versatile in the landscape. This bamboo species prefers to grow in dry areas where the purplish black color of its culms becomes more prominent. A beautiful collector’s bamboo.

BAMBUSA VULGARIS VITTATA (GOLDEN HAWAIIAN BAMBOO)

Golden Hawaiian is the most common tropical bamboo and has been cultivated in the warmer regions of the United States for more than 50 years. The Golden Hawaiian bamboo culms are bright yellow with random green stripes of varying widths.
